USWNT Announces 2023 World Cup Roster
The USWNT roster for July's World Cup roster has been revealed!
USWNT fans waited with bated breath Wednesday as the World Cup roster was released!
Fans of the TODAY Show got a sneak peek Wednesday morning as the program revealed three names heading to Oceania for the competition. NY/NJ Gotham’s Lynn Williams, defender Kelley O’Hara, and Hanson, Massachusetts native Kristie Mewis greeted the crowd at Rockefeller Center as members of the USWNT World Cup squad!
Once the clock struck 11:30 AM, the USWNT released a video package of various celebrities, athletes, and musicians announcing the roster.
Without further ado, here are the 23 names Vlatko Andonovski will take to Australia and New Zealand.
GOALKEEPERS:
Aubrey Kingsbury: The 31-year-old has appeared in 14 contests across all competitions for the Washington Spirit, where she notched 33 saves while only allowing 15 goals over 1,187 minutes. Kingsbury only has one USWNT appearance to her name, but she kept a clean sheet in that appearance.
Casey Murphy: The 27-year-old has appeared in 13 contests across all competitions for the NC Courage, where she notched 30 saves while only allowing 12 goals over 1,132 minutes. Murphy has 14 appearances at the national level, where she’s notched ten clean sheets.
Alyssa Naeher: The 35-year-old comes in as the most experienced keeper of the group. Naeher has appeared in 15 contests across all competitions for the Chicago Red Stars, where she notched 54 saves while allowing 39 goals over 1,350 minutes. Naeher is no stranger to the World Cup, as this is the third time the veteran keeper will represent the Stars & Stripes. Naeher featured in the USWNT squad during their victories in the 2015 and 2019 tournaments.
DEFENDERS:
Alana Cook: The 26-year-old has appeared in 14 contests across all competitions for the OL Reign, where she notched one assist over 1,231 minutes. Cook has 24 appearances with the National Team as she notched one goal and two assists.
Emily Fox: The 24-year-old has appeared in 14 contests for the North Carolina Courage, where she notched one assist over 1,132 minutes. Fox has appeared in 28 matches for the USWNT, where she notched one goal and one assist.
Crystal Dunn: The 30-year-old has 12 appearances for Portland Thorns FC, where she notched an impressive five goals and two assists over 910 minutes. Dunn has a staggering 131 appearances for the USWNT, where she notched 24 goals and 19 assists. Dunn was a part of the 2019 World Cup squad that secured the United States their second-consecutive World Cup title.
Naomi Girma: The 23-year-old has 14 appearances with San Diego Wave FC, where she’s clocked 1,170 minutes of action. Girma has appeared in 15 matches for the USWNT, where she notched one assist.
Sofia Huerta: The 30-year-old has 15 appearances for the OL Reign, where she notched one goal and one assist over 1,208 minutes. Huerta has 29 appearances for the National Team, where she notched four assists.
Kelley O’Hara: The 34-year-old has appeared in 10 matches for the NY/NJ Gotham, where she clocked 600 minutes. O’Hara has a whopping 157 appearances for the USWNT, where she notched three goals and 21 assists. O’Hara was a part of the 2015 and 2019 USWNT squads that brought back-to-back World Cup titles to the United States.
Emily Sonnett: The 29-year-old has appeared in 14 contests for the OL Reign, where she notched one assist. Sonnett has 74 appearances for the USWNT, where she notched one goal and five assists. Sonnett was a part of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad.
MIDFIELDERS:
Savannah DeMelo: The 25-year-old has appeared in 14 matches for Racing Louisville FC, where she notched eight goals and three assists over 1,140 minutes. DeMelo enters the World Cup looking to make her senior USWNT debut! DeMelo received a call-up in October but did not appear. DeMelo has experience with the US on the youth level.
Julie Ertz: The 31-year-old has appeared in seven contests for Angel City FC, where she notched one goal over 495 minutes. Ertz has 118 USWNT appearances, where she notched 20 goals and six assists. Ertz was a part of the 2015 and 2019 USWNT squads.
Lindsey Horan: The 29-year-old has 22 appearances for French side Olympique Lyonnais, where she notched seven goals and four assists over 1,689 minutes. Horan has 128 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched 27 goals and 33 assists. Horan was a part of the 2019 USWNT squad.
Rose Lavelle: The 28-year-old has two appearances for OL Reign, where she notched one assist over 179 minutes. Lavelle has 88 USWNT appearances, where she notched 24 goals and 20 assists. Lavelle featured in the 2019 World Cup winning squad.
Kristie Mewis: The 32-year-old Hanson, and Massachusetts native, has 14 appearances with NY/NJ Gotham, where she notched two assists over 1,077 minutes. Mewis has 51 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched seven goals and four assists.
Ashley Sanchez: The 24-year-old has 15 appearances with the Washington Spirit, where she notched four goals over 1,068 minutes. Sanchez has 24 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched three goals and four assists.
Andi Sullivan: The 27-year-old has 13 appearances with the Washington Spirit, where she clocked 1,121 minutes of action. Sullivan has 44 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched three goals and five assists.
FORWARDS:
Alex Morgan: The 33-year-old has 11 appearances with San Diego Wave FC, where she notched five goals and three assists over 881 minutes of action. Morgan has a storied history with the USWNT over her 206 appearances, as she notched 121 goals and 49 assists. Morgan featured in the 2015 and 2019 USWNT squads.
Megan Rapinoe: The 37-year-old has 11 appearances for OL Reign, where she notched one goal and four assists over 589 minutes. Rapinoe has 199 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched 63 goals and 73 assists. Like Morgan, Rapinoe featured in the 2015 and 2019 USWNT squads.
Trinity Rodman: The 21-year-old has 12 appearances with the Washington Spirit, where she notched four goals and two assists over 1,073 minutes. Rodman has 17 appearances with the USWNT, where she notched two goals and three assists.
Sophia Smith: The 22-year-old has 14 appearances with Portland Thorns FC, where she notched seven goals and five assists over 1,025 minutes. Smith has 29 appearances for the United States, where she notched 12 goals and three assists.
Alyssa Thompson: The 18-year-old has 14 appearances for Angel City FC, where she notched three goals and one assist over 918 minutes. Thompson has three USWNT appearances and has yet to score or assist.
Lynn Williams: The 30-year-old has 14 appearances for NY/NJ Gotham FC, where she notched eight goals over 1,189 minutes. Williams has 52 appearances at the international level as she notched 15 goals and 11 assists.
The United States kickoff Group E action on Friday, July 21st, as they face Vietnam at 9 PM ET on FOX. They take on the Netherlands on Wednesday, July 26th, at 9 PM ET on FOX. The USWNT will conclude the Group Stage on Tuesday, August 1st, as they face Portugal at 3 AM ET on FOX.
