Due to the nature of his contract, Jackson Yueill has become a much-maligned player among New England Revolution fans, but the midfielder has been able to put in a string of impressive performances as the club deals with the absence of Alhassan Yusuf.
In the three matches since Yusuf suffered his injury, the former USMNT player racked up two assists. In New England's 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake, Yueill was one of the few players who put in a good performance. He completed 98 percent of his passes and recorded 55 passes. Additionally, he made two key passes and had two progressive carries.
Striker Wilson Harris noted how enjoyable it was playing with Yueill on Saturday.
"Jackson's been great," Harris said when asked by The Blazing Musket about the midfielder. "He's always trying to find me a play and be a good option for me and play big passes going forward. So I always enjoy playing with him."
The midfielder has been much more involved in the attack since entering the starting XI. He has provided quality service to his teammates and largely has had a positive impact for New England.
But earning over a million dollars a season, Yueill's output as a whole has struggled to match the spending from the club. He has failed to eclipse 1,000 minutes so far in his Revolution career.
In 2026, Yueill has already made more appearances than he did in 2025 and looks to be on track to play the most minutes in his young Revolution career. He has largely been a bench player, but with Yusuf out for an extended period, he has now become a starter.
“Jackson [Yueill] was kind of like a midfielder where the majority of the games played were with Brooklyn [Raines], [Alhassan] Yusuf, and Carles [Gil] playing a triangle in the middle," head coach Marko Mitrovic said after the loss. "Jackson was getting minutes, but not significant minutes. He was really, like every other player, coming in to work every day. Something that we also speak about is you have to be ready to perform. Now, with the circumstances that we have, Jackson is getting more playing time. Actually, he’s doing really good. I think he’s using his minutes in the right way."
While the million-dollar contract will hang over him, it shouldn't define him. If you simply look at how he is playing, the midfielder is actually performing quite well.
