Usseglio: The Wheels Have Fallen Off The Bus
The Revolution were anything but rocking.
The New England Revolution got so thoroughly outplayed by Orlando City SC that it’s not even worth recapping the game. With a final score of 3-0, let us instead re-live the greatest hits from team broadcasters Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies.
CD: Carles is doing too much, like Christian Pulisic on the national team. It takes away from his game.
BF: Carles Gil looks borderline distraught (after Facundo Torres scored a penalty given on a handball by Gil inside the Revs box at the end of the first half).
CD: The Revs are disjointed, not connecting passes or getting shots on goal. They need to move the ball quicker. Just to be better. More sure in possession. It’s unfortunate after a good start to the game.
CD: Too many players are trying to do too much.
BF: You can see the frustration in Carles’ face.
BF: The Revs have been the engineers of their own undoing.
BF: Again, the Revs get in their own way.
CD: Lots of holes and gaps, Orlando is carving up the Revs.
CD: The wheels have fallen off the bus for the Revolution.
BF: Just trying to fill the void with 15 minutes left in a game the Revs had to win (talking to Davies about the merit of goal celebrations).
BF: If you’re still with us, thanks for being with us (in the 80th minute).
BF: Frustrating night in every department.
CD: Revs are absolutely getting shredded in Orlando.
BF: Tough one for the Revolution.
BF: Vrioni looks snake-bitten at this point.
BF: Disappointing night for New England.
BF: Live standings are ugly for the Revs. If results hold they will fall back to last place in the East.
BF: Not a pretty scene if you’re a New England Revolution fan.
BF: The Revs were anything but rocking.
CD: They weren’t good. They just weren’t good tonight.
CD: Now it’s desperation mode. This is the game you have to win or you can kiss the playoffs goodbye (referring to the game against Montréal).
So, to summarize, tonight was a rough one for the Revs. Feldman and Davies were able to sum that up better than I could, and I thought it was important to highlight their commentary throughout the game.
Win the loss, the Revolution have now lost 16 games this MLS season. According to Football Reference, that is the most losses in a season since 2012 (17 losses). The most losses the Revs have in a MLS season was 21, going all the way back to 1998. This year has been historically bad for the Revs and they still have 7 games to go.
Things are not getting any easier with two games this week, first on Wednesday at home against CF Montréal and then at Charlotte FC on Saturday, the team that head coach Caleb Porter guaranteed a win against back at the beginning of the season. We will see if any such promises are made this time around. It is not looking great for Revs fans. They might need to start dreaming or, better yet, worrying about next season.
The off season can’t come soon enough
Don't think there was a bus Porter left it in his toy box at home.
