United States Names Men's National Team Training Camp Roster
See which 27 players Mauricio Pochettino selected to represent the U.S. during June's slate of international friendlies.
Thursday saw the United States Men’s National Team take another step in preparing for this summer’s Concacaf Gold as Mauricio Pochettino unveiled his training camp roster ahead of a pair of friendlies in June!
The biggest headline from Thursday was not the roster itself, but the absence of AC Milan’s Christian Pulisc.
“Christian and his team approached the Federation and coaching staff about the possibility of stepping back this summer, given the amount of matches he has played in the past two years at both the club and level with very little break,” U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Matt Crocker said in a statement. “After thoughtful discussions and careful consideration, we made the collective decision that this is the right moment for him to get the rest he needs. The objective is to ensure he’s fully prepared to perform at the highest level next season.”
On top of Pulisic, Antonee Robinson and Yunus Musah were unavailable for June’s friendlies. This summer’s FIFA Club World Cup also made Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, and Tim Weah unavailable.
Pochettino will bring four keepers as Matt Freese, Patrick Schulte, Zach Steffen, and Matt Turner will comprise the goalkeeping core.
Max Arfsten, Sergiño Dest, Alex Freeman, DeJuan Jones, Mark McKenzie, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, and Miles Robinson will provide the defense for the United States.
The midfield sees Brendan Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Sebastian Berhalter, Johnny Cardoo, Luca de la Torre, Diego Luna, Jack McGlynn, Quinn Sullivan, Malik Tillman, and Sean Zawadzki come together.
Patrick Aguemang, Florian Balogun, Damion Downs, Brian White, and Haji Wright will form the United States’ attack.
Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut, will see the United States begin June’s friendlies as they host Turkiye on the 7 at 3:30 PM ET.
June 10 sees the U.S. travel to Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee, to host Switzerland at 8:00 PM ET.
Glad to see DeJuan Jones's name on the list!
