Tomás Chancalay to Miss Remainder of 2024
Chancalay will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn right ACL in the coming weeks.
The New England Revolution were dealt a massive blow on Thursday when it was announced that DP winger Tomás Chancalay had suffered a partial tear of his right ACL and would require season-ending surgery in the coming weeks.
Chancaly had been out of action since exiting May 25th’s match against New York City FC. Official news on the injury took longer than expected as medical staff had to wait for the swelling to go down.
Before suffering the injury, Chancalay appeared in 18 matches across MLS and CCC, where he tallied six goals and one assist over 1,327 minutes.
Chancalay joins a troubling list of Revolution players to suffer ACL injuries in recent history. Brandon Bye recently made his first appearance since undergoing surgery to repair a torn right ACL in August 2023. Dylan Borrero returned earlier this season after undergoing surgery to repair his left ACL in May 2023.
With Chancalay set to undergo surgery in the coming weeks, the Revolution is set to place the 25-year-old Argentine on the season-ending injury list, which will create some flexibility as the Revolution prepares for a busy secondary window opening on July 18th.
Head coach Caleb Porter told the media the club is looking at ways to address Chancalay’s absence.
I hope he comes out the other side okay! We’ll miss him for the rest of this season for sure!
Oh, gutted for Tomás. He will be missed.
