Tomas Chancalay "For Sure" In The Mix For Atlanta United Game
Caleb Porter talks about the forward position.
Tomas Chancalay and Leo Campana will soon return to the field for the New England Revolution.
During his weekly interview with 98.5, head coach Caleb Porter said that Chancalay would “for sure” be in the mix for Saturday’s game against Atlanta United. He added that he thinks Campana “is very close.”
“In the next several weeks, both of those guys should be inserted,” Porter said. “I do think that if we play the way that we’ve been playing that those guys will bring the goals.”
Chancalay underwent successful ACL surgery on June 27, 2024. Campana has been sidelined since March 8, 2025, when he suffered a hamstring injury during a game against the Philadelphia Union.
Porter believes that both players will help the Revs’ attack, which has scored three goals, none from the run of play.
“We have been in every game, we have been playing much better, and we have been creating a lot more chances,” Porter said. “So, if you put a few guys in there that have quality in those moments when we get in around goal, we feel like that can be what pushes us over the top.”
Maxi Urruti has been the starting striker for three straight games. When Urruti is subbed off, Ignatius Ganago, who has been starting on the wing, moves up top.
Porter provided some insight regarding the striker position during Thursday’s availability.
“If you look at the last two games, we played really well in both first halves,” Porter said “Maxi was in those games. Obviously, you have seen our adjustment the last two games is to eventually push Ganago up top and bring on a winger.
“Obviously, against Red Bulls, that unlocked the game. In the last game, we played much better actually in the first half than we did in the second half. With a little more luck, we should have been up in that half. I did not think at the end of the game we created enough. Those are things you look at.
“But Ganago is part winger and part forward. He has played as a 9, played as winger, played in a twofront, and those are all things we are aware of. We know we have two strikers coming back, so our decisions short-term and long-term will be with those things in mind.”
