Three More Latics Called Up For International Duty
Triston Hodge, Kyle Edwards and Emmanuel Samadia join Deshane Beckford with their respective countries for FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Following the call-up of Deshane Beckford by Jamaica last Friday, three more Latics will join him on international duty in the coming days, with Triston Hodge, Kyle Edwards, and Emmanuel Samadia all getting the nod from their respective national teams.
Like Beckford, Hodge and Edwards will head to teams playing in the second stage of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Hodge will join a Trinidad & Tobago side that has upcoming fixtures against Grenada and Bahamas, while Edwards will link up with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines as they take on Suriname and El Salvador. Samadia will enter the first round of CAF World Cup qualifying when he joins Sierra Leone for fixtures against Djibouti and Burkina Faso.
Hodge is the most experienced international of the three, having made 25 previous appearances for the Soca Warriors, most recently during the 2023 Gold Cup. The defender is the minutes leader for the Latics so far this season and has recorded one assist in eleven games.
Edwards has 20 previous caps for St Vincent and the Grenadines, for whom he has recorded four goals and three assists; with his most recent appearances coming in CONCACAF Nations League B games last summer. He recorded a goal in his last international appearance, a 3-0 win over Belize. The forward has only one appearance for Hartford this season, but in 2023, he had seven goals and three assists.
Samadia has made 17 appearances for Sierra Leone, recording two assists along the way. His last appearances came just this past January, in friendlies against Cote D’Ivoire and Morocco. So far this season, his minutes in Hartford have been limited to just one start.
All four players will miss this weekend’s USL Championship game against New Mexico United, but with the international window closing on June 10th, should be available for selection when the Latics return home again the following weekend.
