Tacoma Defiance sign former Vermont Green FC striker Eythor Bjørgolffson
The striker was drafted by the Seattle Sounders
After being drafted by the Seattle Sounders in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, former Vermont Green FC striker Eythor Bjørgolffson has been signed to the Tacoma Defiance, Seattle’s second team in MLS Next Pro.
Bjørgolffson played in 10 games for the Green and scored six goals. in USL League Two. The 22-year-old also scored 24 goals over four successful seasons at the University of Kentucky.
“Eythor is an exciting prospect, and we are delighted to add him to our roster for 2023,” said Defiance Head Coach Wade Webber. “He impressed during his time with the first team during preseason and it wasn’t hard to see why the club drafted him. He is more than just a big target striker. He is comfortable with both feet, possesses a clear eye for goal, is intelligent with his movement, is a willing worker defensively, threatens the space behind defenders and can be dominant in the air. Defiance have had success over the years in being a proving ground for strikers looking to break into a first team and we are confident Eythor has the mentality and ability to be the next to prove he is ready.”
Bjørgolffson isn’t the only former Vermont Green player in MLS Next Pro as goalkeeper Nate Silveira signed by Crown Legacy FC
Huge Vermont greens fan. Glad to see them progressing positively. Hope they can build to league one eventually
Even tho it’s a three hour drive for me I love going up there. Can’t wait to see what they do in 2023.
