Romario Williams Called Up To Jamaica National Team For Nations League Clash With USMNT
The lone goalscorer and Team of the Week selection from last week's win in El Paso will miss Hartford's home opener vs. Birmingham on Saturday.
Following a positive opening match of the USL Championship season in Hartford Athletic’s 1-0 win over El Paso last week, Romario Williams has received a call-up to Jamaican National Team camp for their upcoming Nations League semifinal against the USMNT.
Williams’ 12th-minute spot kick proved to be the difference in the Championship’s opening match week, earning him USL Championship Team of the Week honors for the fifth time in his career as Hartford returned home with all three points to open the season for the first time since 2021. Now, Williams is set to miss Saturday’s home opener vs. Birmingham Legion FC with Thursday’s semifinals leading towards a potential final/third-place match over the weekend.
Gregg Berhalter’s U.S. side are set to take on Jamaica on Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The last time the two teams met in Texas — a 1-0 win for the United States in the 2021 Quarterfinals.
Now, the two teams will meet again for the 33rd time in their history, with the Stars and Stripes looking to extend their six-match unbeaten run against the Reggae Boyz in their quest for their third-straight CNL title.
In their quest to halt the streak, Williams will join the following roster for Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side:
GK: Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union), Jahmali Waite (El Paso Locomotive FC), Shaquan Davis (Mount Pleasant)
DEFENDERS: Damion Lowe (Philadelphia Union), Michael Hector (Charlton Athletic), Richard King (IBV/ISL), Dexter Lembikisa (Heart of Midlothian), Greg Leigh (Oxford United), Di'Shon Bernard (Sheffield Wednesday), Tayvon Gray (New York City FC)
MIDFIELDERS: Bobby Decordova-Reid (Fulham), Daniel Johnson (Stoke City), Joel Latibeaudiere (Coventry City), Kasey Palmer (Coventry City), Karoy Anderson (Charlton Athletic), Renaldo Cephas (Ankaragucu)

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday on Paramount+ and Univision.
We'll miss him on on Saturday, but I'm really happy for him. It's also a nice looking ok for USL.
