Richie Williams Takes Pride In Result Against Chicago Fire II
See what Richie Williams had to say after his squad picked up two points following a draw and shootout victory.
While it wasn’t the three points everybody wanted, Saturday’s comeback draw and shootout win against Chicago Fire II was a much-needed positive result for Revolution II. The two points garnered on Saturday marked the most Revs II have secured since their ongoing ten-game winless streak began on June 23rd.
Richie WIlliams pointed out how getting all three points would have been the ideal result, but still took pride in the result.
“It’s nice to get the two points,” he said. “Would have been nice to get the three. For the most part, I thought we were the better team.”
Despite taking a staggering 22 shots, Revs II only managed to put five of them on target with only one finding the back of the net. Williams quickly highlighted not capitalizing on their chances.
“I thought we created more,” the coach said. “A lot of the games this year, we’ve created a lot of opportunities, we just can’t take our chances.”
Things got off to a horrid start in the third minute when a turnover in Revs II’s defensive half led to Omari Glasgow slotting the ball past JD Gunn and into the net. Despite finding themselves down early, Revs II fought back and salvaged two points.
Williams applauded his team’s mentality in the result.
“They stayed with it, they didn’t put their heads down, they stayed positive,” he said. “We scored, it got called back, we had a couple other chances, and we finally got the one from Marcos. We stayed positive and that’s always a good feeling at the end even though it was a draw.”
Revolution II will look to maintain their grittiness when they host Toronto FC II inside Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
