Richie Williams Discusses Revolution II's Early Success
Hear what Williams had to say after Revs II secured its first win of the 2025 season!
Thanks to goals from newcomer Damorney Hutchinson and Marcos Dias, Thursday saw New England Revolution II secure a dominant 2-0 victory over FC Cincinnati 2, the club’s first since June 14th, 2024.
Throughout 2024 and into 2025, head coach Richie Williams has emphasized the importance of development for Revolution II.
“With development, you need to be able to compete, and you gotta know how to win soccer games and how to do things the right way,” the coach said. “I think we do things the right way in terms of how we wanna play, and hopefully that ends with positive results.”
Thursday’s win also saw Revs II secure their second clean sheet two games into the 2025 season. A figure that ties the total number the club saw in 2024.
Williams credits his personnel as a factor in Revolution II’s early success with defending.
“Personnel has helped,” he said. “Last year, we had a lot of injuries to our center backs, which really hurt us. We were playing with two Academy center backs at times.”
Personnel isn’t the only reason for the early success. Williams also credits his team’s commitment as a big part of the success.
“We talked about as a team, the most successful teams around the world are good defensively,” the coach said. “In the modern game, everybody attacks and everybody defends, and I think it;’s been a great team effort all around.”
Williams will look to build off the momentum generated in their first two games when the club returns to action on March 28th, hosting Toronto FC II at 2 PM ET.
Richie's all about results all of a sudden! He might not like Porter but he's learning his narrative shifting skills well.
