Revs Return Home to Face Toronto FC
The Revs are fighting to get into a play-in spot, but with their recent play it’s going to be tough to get into the postseason
It is matchday 30 for the Revs as they return home to face off against Canadian side Toronto FC.
Both sides are having tough seasons, both in the bottom half of the table with less points than they should have with the teams they field. The reverse fixture of this match this season went New England’s way with a 2-0 win in Toronto.
New England is coming off of an interesting 3-2 loss against Chicago away from home, while Toronto is coming off of a 1-1 draw against Canadian rivals Montreal.
Toronto are basically eliminated from the playoff contention, so these games for the Reds are consolation matches. The Revs are fighting to get into a play-in spot, but with their recent play it’s going to be tough to get into a spot.
Let’s preview this one.
All Time Record Between Clubs
The Revs have won 12 games against Toronto, beating them 3-2 in 2018 when former Toronto forward Sebastian Giovinco got a red card for grabbing former Revs midfielder Wilfried Zahibos neck. Toronto have won 10 games against New England, smoking them 4-1 in a regular season matchup in 2018. The teams have drawn 10 times in their club's histories.
Players To Watch
New England
Peyton Miller is coming off of a pretty solid performance against Chicago this past weekend, scoring a great goal in the late stages of the match and also having 6 recoveries from defense. His Fotmob ratings may not say it, but he has been a baller for New England and will need to step up tonight and for the rest of the season if they want to make this playoff push.
Tomas Chancalay has not started recently for New England with the return of Ignatius Ganago, but it seems like when Chancalay comes off the bench he brings a spark in the Revs attack, as he did against Chicago. With Ganago being listed as questionable and Leonardo Campana out tonight, Chancalay could return and make an impact for this Revs attack.
Toronto FC
Djordje Mihailovic joined Toronto in the summer and despite playing just 4 matches for the club has been a solid asset. He hasn’t gotten a Fotmob rating under 7.0 for the side, and created the most chances for Toronto last matchday with 4 chances created. He is an attacking threat and is someone that the Revs need to make sure doesn’t get the chance to create tonight.
Jonathon Osorio is an MLS veteran who’s having a pretty good season from the CAM position. He scored an equalizer for Toronto in the 88th minute in their last match against Montreal, where he also had 81% accurate passes and 3 successful dribbles. He is the facilitator in that midfield and is a shining light in a tough season for Toronto.
Key to The Game For New England
The key to the game for New England is they need to start strong. Against Chicago they let them run all over them and it seemed like there was absolutely no focus from New England. That is what loses this Revs team matches.
Injury Report
New England
Leonardo Campana - Abductor (Out)
Matt Polster - Knee (Out)
Ignatius Ganago - Calf (Questionable)
Toronto
Nickesoen Gomis - Lower Body (Out)
Zane Monlouis - Lower Body (Out)
Henry Wingo - Lower Body (Out)
Every game to finish this season is a must win for New England if they want to make a playoff push. They cannot afford to lose any games or drop points, especially at home. It should be an interesting one tonight as the Revs are down some guys. Should be exciting to see midfielder Allan Oyirwoth get the start and hopefully settle into this Revs lineup.
