Revolution Notebook: Bou, Blessing, and Bobby
Gustavo Bou is nearing a return, plus some comments from Bruce Arena.
The New England Revolution end their busy stretch of three games in eight days when they face New York City FC on Saturday. Here are some talking points heading into the game.
Gustavo Bou Is Off The Injury List
The latest Revolution injury report, which was released on Thursday, doesn’t include Bou’s name. The striker, who last played on Apr. 29, was on the bench for Wednesday’s match but didn’t play.
Bou appears to be nearing a return. On Instagram, he posted a picture with a caption that reads, “You don’t know how much I waited for this comeback.”
Latif Blessing Exits Wednesday’s Game at Halftime
Blessing was replaced by Justin Rennicks at halftime of the Atlanta United game.
When asked about the substitution in his post-game presser, head coach Bruce Arena said, “[Blessing] has basically suffered a contusion. I think on his calf.”
The midfielder did take a hard hit during the opening stanza of the game.
Arena Offers Praise for Bobby Wood
Wood was instrumental in the Revs’ first two goals against Atlanta as his pressure helped create the first one and he scored the second one.
The former RSL player now has five goals and three assists in 789 minutes this season.
When asked by WPRO’s Tom Quinlan to comment on Wood’s contributions, Arena said, “Well, a lot of his goals have come in the six-yard box. He's a really smart player in the six-yard box and he’s just an intelligent player. I think the goal that was set up tonight came from an [Emmanuel Boateng] cross, so we're well aware of Ema’s qualities. Bobby is a smart player and a lot of his goals have come from good movement in and around the penalty area.”
