Revolution Loan Damian Rivera To Tampa Bay Rowdies
Rivera joins Tampa on loan after splitting first four professional seasons between the Revolution and Revs II.
The New England Revolution tweaked their roster on Monday, as the club loaned Homegrown midfielder Damian Rivera to the Tampa Bay Rowdies through the 2024 USL Championship season.
Rivera became the Revolution’s fourth Homegrown player after signing with the club on November 8th, 2019. Through his four seasons in New England, the Cranston, Rhode Island native has appeared in 21 Major League Soccer matches along with making 54 appearances for New England Revolution II.
Damian Rivera himself was the one to break the news of his move to Tampa Bay, as he posted a selfie of him in Rowdies gear following a preseason friendly, where he notched a goal in a 4-1 win over CF Montreal.
When talking about the new addition, Rowdies head coach Robbie Neilson said, “Damian is exactly what we were looking for in a player. We knew he would, but he’s maybe settled in with the squad even quicker than expected.”
Rivera said he wants to take his game to the next level and adds being in Tampa will help build his confidence as he looks to rack up goals, assists, and wins for the Rowdies.
The Rowdies kickoff their 2024 USL Championship campaign on March 16th, as they host San Antonio FC.
He hasn't looked like an MLS-caliber player to this point. Maybe playing at a little higher level than Revs II will help him develop his game.
Will the Revs have the right to recall him later if they should want to?
