Revolution II Settling In At Mark A. Ouellette Stadium
See what Richie Williams and Patrick Leal had to say about their first outing in New Hampshire.
Mark A. Ouellette Stadium opener was a success for Richie Williams and New England Revolution II as a trio of goals from Patrick Leal, Jack Panayotou, and Gevork Diarbian, topped with heroics from JD Gunn, led Revs II back to the win column following a 3-1 victory!
Following the win, we got to talk with midfielder Patrick Leal and head coach Richie Williams to get their thoughts on the new environment and the big three points. Here’s what they had to say!
Patrick Leal on initial thoughts about playing at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium:
“We were confused at first, but then when we saw the stadium and we saw why we were here, we were very happy to be here and it’s a great scene to play at.”
First thoughts of Mark A. Ouellette Stadium:
Williams: “Yeah, it was nice. Any time you win, you don't care where you play, right? But no, it was a nice setup. The field was nice, you got the nice stands in the locker rooms, everything was fine. And if we could fill that up in the future, I think it'd be a great home field advantage if we can get a bunch of fans, so it's nice to have a little bit of a crowd tonight, which I think helped the guys and moving forward, hopefully more and more people will come out. But overall, I think it was nice.”
Leal: “The atmosphere’s great. It’s a great field and it was really enjoyable to play here today”
Patrick Leal on getting on the scoresheet:
“Amazing. Finally. Today, I was able to get higher up the field because we were able to keep the ball higher up the field, and it just feels great to come away with the goal. It never gets old.”
Getting a big three points:
Leal: “Great. I think the coaches prepared us well for the game, and we just came out wanting to win and that’s what we did.”
Williams: “Anytime you win, it’s awesome, but we didn’t know anything about the facility. We had never been here team-wise. We were happy with the locker rooms, the set-up, the field itself, the stadium was really nice, and the fans. It’s good to be able to get a good three points, a win, and hopefully more and more people come.”
Maintaining a lead:
Leal: “It’s just great for momentum as a team because in previous games we weren’t able to hold on to a lead. Being able to score three goals early really helped us win the game.”
Williams: “It’s huge. We’ve had the game all the games we scored first, and we then gave up the next goal and they got back into the game. It’s always nice to get a good start, yet after we get the first goal, we had instances where we relaxed and the urgencey went down and we didn’t get a second or third. You saw tonight, you get the second and third, now you get into the second half where maybe you’re a little fatigued, they’re pushing the game, we're not at our best but you still have that cushion of a three-goal lead.”
