New England Revolution:
It’s been a good season for Clint Peay and company as they enter Sunday’s contest in third place of the Eastern Conference with 30 points on an 8-5-3 record with three shootout victories.
Revs II’s last outing saw a logistical challenge for the squad as MLS NEXT Cup and MLS action the next day saw Revolution II only field 15 players on the matchday squad. Things got crazy in the closing minutes as substitute Weverton exited after picking up a knock.
With no other option, reserve goalkeeper Nico Campuzano came on as a field player. Campuzano nearly found the game-winner in the closing minute, but TFC’s keeper denied what could have arguably been the greatest moment in MLS NEXT Pro history! Both sides earned the point following a 1-1 draw and looked to pick up another point in the shootout.
Following two big saves by Jacob Jackson, Nakye Greenidge-Duncan stepped up to the spot looking to keep Revs II’s streak of shutout wins alive. Greenidge-Duncan lobbed the ball over the keeper and sent it into the right side of the net to give Revolution II the shootout victory!
Huntsville City FC:
It’s been a rocky inaugural season for Jack Collinson and HCFC as they enter Sunday’s contest in tenth place of the Eastern Conference with 18 points on a 4-7-3 record with three shootout victories.
Huntsville saw defeat in their last outing as they traveled to Historic Crew Stadium on June 25th to face reigning MLS NEXT Pro champions, Columbus Crew 2. Coleman Gannon netted the game’s lone goal in the 56th minute as Crew 2 walked away with a 1-0 victory.
Revolution II needs to keep a watchful eye on Kemy Amiche. The 22-year-old midfielder currently leads HCFC’s Golden Boot race with five goals on the year. Amiche can dish the ball with two assists on the year. Jonathan Bolanos and Azaad Liadi are two names to watch as well. Liadi enters Sunday’s contest with four goals on the year. Bolanos also has four goals on the year, but he’s also tacked on four assists.
Previous Meetings:
Sunday marks the first meeting between New England and Nashville’s developmental clubs.
