Revolution II Preview: 5/6 Against NYCFC II
Clint Peay and crew will look to snap a two-game winless streak Saturday evening.
New England Revolution II returns to action Saturday evening as they look to get themselves back into the win column after disappointing results in their previous three outings.
Opponent: NYCFC II
Venue: Belson Stadium, Jamaica, New York
Date: May 6th
Kickoff: 7:30 PM ET
Broadcast: MLSNEXTPro.com
Projected Weather: Saturday looks pleasant in Jamaica as temps at kickoff will sit in the high 60s with slight wind topping at 8 MPH. The temps and winds will slowly drop throughout the evening into the lower 60s. It also looks to be a dry one, as there’s no rain forecasted.
New York City FC II:
NYCFC II enters Saturday’s contest looking to get back on track after going winless in their previous two contests. NYCFC II sits in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a rocky 2-2-1 record.
The offense has been stagnant for NYC, as they have only notched eight goals in their opening five matches. John Denis and Matthew Meyers sit atop NYC’s golden boot race with two goals. Revolution II fans will fondly remember John Denis as he notched six goals in four contests against Revolution II.
New England:
Revolution II enters Saturday’s contest following an action-packed 5-5 draw against FC Cincinnati 2, followed by a 5-4 victory in the shootout as Revolution walked away with two points.
Head coach Clint Peay said Revs II “got to obviously do better as we move forward.” Despite the disappointing result, co-leading scorer Jordan Adebayo-Smith noted some positive takeaways.
“We scored five goals, that’s a big positive. We made a couple mistakes trying to play out of the back [against] a high press team, but I feel like we can learn from that.”
Defender Pierre Cayet will look to make his 50th appearance with the club. Cayet has appeared in all six contests this season, where he’s notched one goal over 539 minutes. Cayet also ranks second in MLS NEXT Pro for interceptions with eighteen interceptions.
With the first team playing in Toronto the same day, expect Jordan Adebayo-Smith to look to take sole control of the golden boot race as he will look to separate himself from first-teamer Damian Rivera.
Previous Meetings:
Saturday’s meeting marks the fifth meeting between Revolution II and NYCFC II. Both sides met in their inaugural MLS NEXT Pro match on March 27th, 2022, where goals from Christopher Gloster, John Denis, and a brace from Damian Rivera resulted in a 2-2 draw which led Revs II to pick up an extra point with a 4-3 shootout victory!
NYC and New England met two more times in 2022 as a quartet of goals from John Denis in the first half led to a 4-0 NYCFC II win on July 10th. Their final meeting on September 10th was less lackluster as neither side found the back of the net as NYCFC won the shootout 4-2.
Both sides have already met in 2023 as goals from Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Esmir Bajraktarević led Revs II to a 2-1 win on April 2nd.
