New England Revolution II:
It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Richie Williams and Revs II as they enter Sunday’s match on a two-game skid that’s seen them suffer a 2-1 loss to Crown Legacy and a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia Union II.
Williams was quick to admit things didn’t go to plan against Philadelphia.
“We had a difficult time dealing with their direct play, their physicality, and that was the difference in the game,” he said.
Despite the loss, Williams and defender Damario McIntosh emphasized how they’ll use the result as a learning opportunity.
Following the 3-1 loss to Philly, Revs II find themselves in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with 11 points on a 3-5-1 record with one shootout year.
New York City FC:
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for Matt Pilkington and New York City FC II as they enter Sunday’s match in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a near-even 3-3-2 record with one shootout victory.
On top of a packed MLS NEXT Pro schedule, NYCFC II has also made a deep run in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as they made a run to the Round of 16 of the competition.
Midfielder Jonathan Shore has led NYCFC II to success in 2024 as the 17-year-old has a team-leading four goals in eight appearances. Ronald Arevalo also poses a threat offensively, as the forward has tallied two goals and three assists in eight appearances. Forwards Taylor Calheira and Máximo Carrizo also pose a threat. The duo have tallied two goals and two assists each throughout 2024.
Revs II's defense and goalkeeping have to stay alert. NYCFC II comes into Sunday leading MLS NEXT Pro in shots on target per match (6.8) and interceptions per match (13.4), according to FotMob.
Okay. Enough talk about NYCFC II. Let’s talk about the REAL reason Sunday’s match will be a good one! Revolution II legend Jake Rozhanksy returns to the region for the first time since departing the club following the historic 2023 campaign.
After being acquired by Revolution II on April 1st, 2021, the Germantown, Maryland native appeared in 72 matches for the club, which ranks third all-time, where he tallied one goal and a record 15 assists.
