Five Revolution II Players To Watch In 2024
As we get closer to kickoff of Revolution II's fifth season, here are five names who could have a breakout 2024 season!
We are just days away from the start of the 2024 New England Revolution II season. As the club prepares to begin its fifth season, here are five names to keep an eye on throughout 2024.
Max Weinstein: After spending the past two seasons behind Jacob Jackson, 2024 should be the season Revolution II hands the keys to the former Academy prospect.
Through two seasons with Revs II, Weinstein has appeared in 14 matches and conceded 26 goals while notching 57 saves and earning four clean sheets.
With the guidance of head coach Richie Williams, goalkeeper coach Yuta Nomura, and consistent playing time in 2024, Weinstein could develop into an elite goalkeeping prospect for the Revolution’s future.
Alex Monis: Monis embarks on his first season in New England after spending the first four seasons with the Chicago Fire, which included time spent with Chicago Fire II, Forward Madison, and Rio Grande FC Toros.
While it was a preseason game, Monis became the second-ever player to tally a hat trick on February 13th when he netted three goals in a 3-2 victory over Colorado Rapids 2.
With some quality pieces on the wing like Escobar and Dias, it wouldn’t be a shock if Monis racked up a number of goals in 2024!
Patrick Leal: Despite only playing in 11 matches after arriving from Venezia in the summer, Leal managed to tally two assists over 424 minutes.
Leal showed his offensive prowess in preseason as he found the back of the net in a 2-0 win over CF Montreal U-23s and the second meeting with Rhode Island FC.
Since arriving at Revs II, Leal has shown to be an offensive threat. Whether he’s setting up or putting home chances, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him end the season with five plus in the goals and assists column.
Maciel: Maciel’s success with Revolution II made him one of the first players to jump to the first team. Unfortunately, a devastating left Achilles injury at the end of 2022 caused him to miss nearly a year of action.
Thankfully, Maciel returned to the pitch at the end of 2023 as he played in three matches across the regular season and playoffs. Despite his return, Maciel’s time with the first team ended on December 1, 2023, when the club declined to pick up his option.
While his option was declined, Maciel returned to the Revolution organization on January 5 after inking a deal to return to Revolution II. I have the gut feeling Maciel will be determined to have a productive 2024 season to earn his way back to the first team. While Maciel isn’t the type of player who gets goals and assists, I expect him to be a defensive presence in the midfield.
Cristiano Oliveira: I’m not sure how much time the 15-year-old midfielder will get in 2024, but it will be interesting to see what the Academy standout does with the minutes he gets.
While not signed to a professional deal, Oliveira inked an Amateur Agreement ahead of the 2024 season that sees the Sommerville, Massachusetts native eligible to appear on the matchday squad while maintaining NCAA eligibility.
Oliveira enters the 2024 season after notching 12 goals and two assists with the Revolution Academy in the fall. His work with the Academy has led to a rise on the international stage, as Oliveira received two call-ups to the United States Youth National Team.
Excited to see Leal this season and hoping Maciel has a strong and healthy campaign.
Would like to see them both contribute to the first team in 2025.
Should be a good season for the Revs ll.
