Revolution II Named MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Month
Revs II went unbeaten during the month of August as they clinched the clubs first-ever playoff appearance!
The month of August was a successful one for Revs II. Despite a change in the head coaching position, as assistant coach Marcelo Santos became interim head coach as Clint Peay serves as an assistant coach with the first team, Revolution II stayed strong as they finished the month with a resounding 3-0-2 record with one shootout victory.
Revolution II started August on a rough note as they were seconds away from securing all three points with a 1-0 victory at home. That was until O’vonte Mullins found the back of the net in the final minute of stoppage time. New England and NYRB II secured a point with the draw and looked to gain an additional point in the shootout. Despite three saves from Jacob Jackson, Revs II fell short as NYRB secured a 4-3 shootout victory.
It was a wild night on August 9th as Revs II entered the locker room with a 3-2 lead and with Orlando City B down. Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Joshua Bolma tacked on two more goals early in the second half, but OCB was not going down without a fight. Favian Loyola shrunk the lead to two in the 68th minute as Nabi Kibunguchy narrowed the lead to one in the 74th minute. Despite two quick goals, Revolution II stood tall as they walked away with a 5-4 victory.
The offense was on full display again on August 13th as goals from Damian Rivera, Esmir Bajraktarević, Noble Okello, and a brace from Jordan Adebayo-Smith propelled Revs II to a commanding 5-1 victory over Atlanta United 2.
The offense cooled off during August 18th’s road match against Toronto FC II, as neither side found the back of the net during regular time. Despite only picking up a point at the end of regulation, that one point secured Revs II their first-ever playoff appearance! With their ticket to the playoffs punched, Revs II turned their attention to the ensuing shootout, in which they secured a commanding 4-1 shootout victory as they walked away with two points.
Revolution II wrapped up August’s slate of games on the 27th as a goal from Joshua Bolma and a brace from Marcos Dias gave Revs II a 3-0 shutout victory over Union II.
Revs II ended the month of August in second place in the Eastern Conference with 51 points on a 13-5-7 record with five shootout victories!
Interim head coach Marcelo Santos took to his X account following the league recognition to applaud the culture Clint Peay had created within Revs II prior to his temporary move up to the first team.
“A true Leader creates an environment, culture, and system that isn’t dependent on a single individual’s charisma or input,” Santos said. “Therefore, when they are absent, the organization can continue to thrive. Well done Clint, staff and the team!”
Revolution II will look to keep their success rolling into the month of September as they wrap up the 2023 regular season and embark on their first playoff run.
