Revolution II Announce 2024 Year-End Roster Decisions
Revs II see four players return under contract, exercise seven options, decline four options, and see six contracts expire.
After a disappointing 2024 season that saw Revolution II earn the dreaded wooden spoon following a 4-18-6, the organization turned the page to 2025 Friday afternoon when they announced their end-of-season roster decision.
In addition to Friday’s decision, Revolution Academy midfielder Cristiano Oliveira signed a contract with the club through the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season.
Oliveira ascended the Pro Player Pathway after notching one assist over 455 while spending 2024 with Revs II under an Amateur Agreement.
The 16-year-old joins midfielder Eric Klein and defenders Victor Souza and Damario McIntosh as players under contract for 2025.
Klein returns for year three with Revolution II. Since debuting on July 12th, 2023, Klein has notched one goal and three assists while clocking 2,133 minutes in 27 appearances.
Souza returns for a third season with Revolution II. Since debuting on March 26th, 2023, the Boston College alum has appeared in 45 matches for Revolution II, where he’s notched one goal and two assists over 3,847 minutes.
McIntosh returns for a second season with the club. The former Revolution Academy prospect ended his debut campaign clocking 1,744 minutes in 25 appearances.
On top of the quartet of players under contract for 2025, Revolution II exercised options on goalkeepers JD Gunn and Max Weinstein, defender Hesron Barry, midfielders Gevork Diarbian and Olger Escobar, and forwards Liam Butts and Alex Monis.
Gunn returns for a second year with Revs II. He ended 2024 with 73 saves while conceding 38 goals. Gunn’s efforts with Revs II led him to his first soccer call-up for Panama earlier this month.
Weinstein returns for a fourth season with the club. Through three seasons, Weinstein has amassed 92 saves while conceding 42 goals in 23 appearances.
Barry returns for a second season in New England. The 24-year-old appeared in 13 matches in his debut season and ended the year clocking 1,005 minutes.
Diarbian returns for year number two with Revolution II. The former Vermont Green man ended his debut campaign as the only player to appear in all 28 matches in 2024. He finished the year with two goals and three assists in 1,428 minutes.
Escobar returns for a third season with Revs II. Since debuting on April 21st, 2023, Escobar has appeared in 30 matches, where he’s tallied one assist over 1,172 minutes.
Liam Butts returns for a second season in New England. His first season was rough, as three different injury spells kept him out for extended periods. Despite the setbacks, Butts ended his first campaign with five goals in 11 appearances. Three of which came in the final three outings of 2024.
Monis returns for a second season with Revs II. The Philippine international ended his first campaign in New England with eight goals and four assists in 24 appearances.
Revolution II declined the options of defenders Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi and Giovanni Calderón, midfielder Luka Borovic, and forward Andrej Bjelajac.
Al-Hasnawi signed with Revolution II on May 3rd and ended the 2024 season with 980 minutes clocked over 17 appearances.
Calderón signed with New England on July 6th. Calderón appeared in five matches and clocked 377 minutes before a head injury plus another undisclosed injury sidelined him for eight games.
Borovic joined Revolution II on March 26th. The 19-year-old ended 2024 appearing in 18 matches, where he notched one assist over 861 minutes.
Bjelajac signed with New England on January 8th and ended 2024 appearing in 12 matches while clocking 318 minutes.
Defenders Jacob Akanyirige and Colby Quiñones, midfielders Brandonn Bueno, Patrick Leal, and Maciel, and forward Marcos Dias find themselves as free agents after their contract with the club expired.
Akanyirge has spent the past two seasons in New England. He’s appeared in 18 matches for Revs II and tallied one assist over 537 minutes.
Quiñones, a Revolution II original, has spent the past five seasons with the club. The Bedford, New Hampshire native owns a club-record 92 appearances and one goal over 5,476 minutes.
Bueno has spent the past three seasons in New England. The 20-year-old has appeared in 20 matches for Revs II and notched one goal and one assist over 468 minutes.
Leal has spent the past two seasons with New England. He’s appeared in 35 matches for the club and notched four goals and four assists over 2,076 minutes.
Maciel returned to Revolution II in January following a stint with the Revolution’s first team. During his three seasons dating back to 2020, Maciel has appeared in 47 matches for Revs II, where he notched one goal and three assists over 3,448 minutes.
Dias has spent the past three seasons with Revolution II and has been the club’s most dominant attacking presence. Through his 68 appearances, Dias tallied a club-record 24 goals plus nine assists over 5,194 minutes.Â
While they may be off the roster for now, there’s a chance we could see some names return for another season in New England.
Leal deserves a shot with the first team, Macial as well. Both could be solid role players off the bench.
Surprised to see Colby Quiñones and Marcos Dias options declined. Again letting two good players go!
