Could These 4 Revolution II Players Make Jump to First Team?
We are six games into the 2023 Revs II season, and we're already seeing some star players have breakout seasons. Could they be the next Revs II promotion?
We are six games into the 2023 Revolution II campaign and that means it’s time to speculate who we could see make the jump to the first team. Here are four guys to watch throughout the remainder of the season that could one day see a promotion to the first team.
Pierre Cayet: Cayet has been a standout defender for Revs II. Since joining the club in April 2021, Cayet has been a constant presence in the Revs II lineup, as he’s made 48 appearances with Revs II over three seasons.
Over his 4,089 minutes on the field, Cayet has an impressive five goals, a high tally for a center-back. Despite some recent performances, Cayet remains cool on the pitch, as he’s only received six yellow cards and two ejections.
With an aging backline, I would not be shocked to see Pierre Cayet promoted to the first team this coming off-season.
Jordan Adebayo-Smith: Adebayo-Smith has been ablaze since signing with Revolution II this past offseason. The former Tampa Bay Rowdies forward has appeared in all six contests for Revs II this season, where he’s notched three goals over 438 minutes. Adebayo-Smith has also flashed his passing abilities. Adebayo-Smith holds a 76.9% passing percentage while notching an assist.
While it is early, Adebayo-Smith has had a tremendous start to the 2023 campaign. If he continues his form throughout the year, the front office must consider bringing Adebayo-Smith up to enhance the attacking depth.
Victor Souza: The 2023 MLS SuperDraft pick has held his own with Revolution II to start the season. Souza has appeared in all six matches for Revs II with five starts. Through 468 minutes of actions, Souza has notched six blocks, twenty clearances, and six interceptions. He also possesses an 84.3% passing percentage with one key pass.
While Souza’s stats are impressive, a bonus is the defender can also play at right-back, which is a position the first team has lacked depth in recent years.
Souza’s promotion may take some time, but I could see the Boston College grad ascending to the first team one day.
Peyton Miller: Miller has been one of Revs II’s most impressive players in 2023. The 15-year-old left-back has started in five games this season. He did miss the match against NYRB II, yet for a good reason, as he received his fourth call-up to the USYNT as he participated in the U-17 training camp.
Miller has notched seventeen clearances, three blocks, and eight interceptions. He also has one assist with eight key passes. His passing has been decent, with a 76% completion percentage with 139 successful passes.
Miller still needs time to develop and gain some strength, but I am confident we will one day see Miller join the first team.
Nice to see that these kids are doing well and may make the jump.
Man, just the fact that there is a pathway is exciting, let alone the fact that there is talent in the pipeline.
