Revolution 0, NYCFC 1: Three Thoughts
The Revs move to 2-10-1 on the season.
The New England Revolution are now 2-10-1 after losing to New York City FC on Saturday night.
Here are three thoughts from the game.
A Solid Night Undone By A Late Goal
After a shaky start to the match, the Revs settled in and offered a solid performance.
The most encouraging part of the game was that they created some dangerous chances through their passes. There were several times when the Revs played a line-splitting ball to a central player, who was then able to go forward.
Here’s an example.

That said, the Revs needed to do more in front of the net. The home side ended the night with 16 total shots (six on frame) and an xG of .78. Those stats were taken from FotMob.
The thin margin kept NYCFC in the game. Keaton Parks ultimately got the game winner in the 81st minute.
Dylan Borrero Is A Difference-Maker
On Saturday, Dylan Borrero made his fifth appearance—and second straight start—since returning from an ACL injury suffered last year.
The Colombian looked good in his most recent outing, as he created several attacking moments during his 78-minute performance.
The speedy winger can obviously take people on in wide areas but there were several times when he created opportunities by coming inside.
Here’s an example.
Here’s another.
An Injury And A Suspension
The Revs have dealt with a lot this season, including injuries and illnesses. Unfortunately for them, this trend will continue, at least in the short term.
Tomas Chancalay exited Saturday’s game in the 10th minute with an injury while Henry Kessler will miss next Saturday’s game against Nashville SC due to yellow card accumulation.
Esmir Bajraktarevic entered for Chancalay and could continue to fulfill that role if the injury is serious.
The Revs have a few options to replace Kessler, including Dave Romney, Jonathan Mensah, and Andrew Farrell.
Porter needs to go. Or at least learn to read his players for fatigue. Waiting to Sub till 75th minute is nuts.
I think I hate Porter more than I hated Friedel which is a god damn miracle. Caleb is really showing us why he inherits a roster and playing style and wins mls cup then does fuck all. He missed the playoffs more often than he made it even before he dragged us into the dumpster. Caleb is a clueless imbecile who lucked into his success in the past. He is clueless. He is an embarrassment. Sam should ask him why he missed the playoffs over half the time and see how that goes. Porter and Onalfo are clowns and we deserve this for not firing ever young. Richie is coaching the second team. We are so embarrassing
