Report: Revolution Working on Transfer for Giacomo Vrioni
Vrioni's time in New England may be up following two-and-a-half seasons.
Giacomo Vrioni’s time with the New England Revolution could reportedly be coming to an end.
According to Seth Macomber, the club is in discussions with Belgian Pro League side Royal Charleroi SC over a transfer for the 26-year-old Designated Player.
Since arriving in New England from Juventus for $3.8 million in July 2022, it's been a rollercoaster of a run for the Albanian striker. Through 78 matches across all competitions, Vrioni tallied 22 goals and five assists over 4,599 minutes.
2024 was an up-and-down year for Vrioni. After a slow start to the year, things began to pick up on June 16th against Vancouver as he scored six goals in as many games.
Things went downhill after that. A calf injury kept him out for two games. Upon returning, Vrioni only notched one goal in the final 11 games.
Royal Charleroi SC sits in 11th place in the Belgian Pro League with 17 points on a 5-8-2 record.
A big reason for their lack of success is their attack. They hold a -5 goal differential with only 14 goals over 15 matches. Considering their lack of attack, a move for Vrioni could be a win-win for both clubs.
It remains uncertain if a deal will come to fruition, but it’s something for Revs fans to keep an eye on.
