The New England Revolution are reportedly set to enter a new era, as The Athletic’s Tom Bogert is reporting that the Revs will be naming current United States Under-20 National Team Head Coach Marco Mitrovic as the club’s next head coach. Vanni Sartini and Josh Wolff were also finalists for the role, according to Bogert.

Mitrovic may be a familiar name to Revs fans as he called up youngsters Peyton Miller and Eric Klein during his time with the U.S. U-20s. Most recently, Miller appeared in all five U-20 World Cup games, making a single start.

Following a playing career that featured stops in Serbia, Hungary, and Azerbaijan, Mitrovic’s coaching career began in 2011 when he took an assistant coaching role with Serbian side FK Banat Zrenjanin.

Mitrovic went on to join Serbian side FK Napredak Krusevac before ascending to the national level to serve as an assistant for the Serbian Under-20 National Team and be a head coach with the U-15 side. His time with Serbia was capped off in 2015 when the European side secured the FIFA U-20 World Cup title.

The Belgrade native made the trek to the United States in 2016 when he joined the Chicago Fire as an assistant under Veljko Paunović. Mitrovic spent four seasons with the Fire, making the playoffs once.

Following the 2019 MLS season, Mitrovic departed the U.S. to follow Paunović to English Championship side Reading. His time in England ended in February 2022 after Paunović was relieved of his duties.

Mitrovic wasn’t out of a job for long as he returned to the States in April 2022 to take over as the manager of the nation’s U-19 side. His time in the U.S. system also saw him lead the 2024 Olympic squad to the Quarterfinals before suffering a 4-0 loss to Morocco. Most recently, he led the U-20s to the Quarterfinals of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup before suffering a 3-1 loss to Morocco.

While Mitrovic lacks manager experience at the club level, his experience within the youth ranks should be a strong benefit in New England, which has revamped its developmental pipeline in recent years.
