Report: Manchester United is "Heavily Scouting" Djordje Petrović
Could the Serbian Intenational make the jump to Europe in the near future?
New England Revolution and Serbian international goalkeeper Djordje Petrović is starting to stir European interest less than one year after arriving in New England.
According to MLS insider Tom Bogert, the 23-year-old goalkeeper is being “heavily scouted” by English Premier League giants Manchester United.
Petrović has seen a meteoric rise since arriving in New England on April 6th, 2022. The goalkeeper took firm control of the Revolution net following Matt Turner’s departure as he notched 85 saves and seven clean sheets over 21 appearances in 2022.
Following an outstanding half-season performance last year, the Revs secured the services of the young Serbian as they inked a contract extension that keeps Petrović in New England through the 2025 MLS season and with an option for 2026.
Tom Bogert notes that “no official contact” has been made between New England and Manchester United, but that could change if Petrović gets off to a hot start in 2023.
It's probably safe to assume he survives the season, but will depart either this winter or definitely by next summer. I doubt the club would move on from him after just 12 months, and the contract extension was smart since that should add a sizeable chunk to the transfer fee.
We knew he wasn't going to be long for the Revs. Keep the pipeline going!
