Report: Chelsea Submits Bid for Djordje Petrović
Djordje Petrović may be Chelsea bound after the EPL club submitted a bid that would shatter MLS' record for highest outbound transfer fee for a goalkeeper!
Three days after The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reported English Premier League side Chelsea was interested in acquiring Revolution keeper Djordje Petrović, The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg was the first to report that Chelsea has submitted an offer for the Serbian goalkeeper.
According to Steinberg, Chelsea has offered the New England Revolution a whopping £15 million ($19,104,000). A fee that would shatter the record for the highest outbound transfer fee for an MLS keeper, which ironically was set when Chelsea acquired Gabriel Slonina for a reported £9.09 million last summer.
However, there have been conflicting reports on the actual fee. According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, Chelsea offered the Revs £11.8 million ($15 million) for Petrovic. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also reported that the deal was for £15 million.
Bogert adds that while the Revolution was keen on keeping Petro through the remainder of the 2023 season, heavy financial advances from Chelsea and Petrović’s desire to play in Europe have forced them to reconsider.
No deal has finalized as of yet, but with the European window set to close in the coming weeks, one may be imminent.
While the Major League Soccer window is closed, the Revolution can sign a free-agent goalkeeper to fill the void Djordje Petrović would leave if a deal finalizes. Tom Bogert reported yesterday that former Maccabi Haifa keeper Josh Cohen was a name the Revolution had their eye on.
So we’ll never get to see him in playoff game?
They have infinite money. Demand $40 million.
