Recap: Revolution II 1 - Huntsville City SC 2
Revs II suffer their fourth consecutive loss following a disappointing outing at home.
Richie Williams and New England Revolution II looked to overcome their recent woes and snap a three-game losing streak when they hosted Eastern Conference basement dwellers Huntsville City SC inside a scorching Gillette Stadium.
There was one change to the lineup that suffered a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia Union II. J.D. Gunn started between the pipes behind the back line of Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi, Gio Calderón, Tiago Suarez, and Damario McIntosh. Maciel paired alongside Olger Escobar and Eric Klein in the midfield, while Revs II’s attack featured the trio of Alex Monis, Patrick Leal, and Malcolm Fry.
Revs II’s corner kick abilities nearly paid dividends in the fourth minute when Monis got under a corner from Leal. Monis attempted to head the ball on frame but put it an inch too high as it sailed over the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
Klein nearly found his second goal of the season in the 28th minute when he got his head on the end of a corner kick and looked to slot the ball into the bottom-left corner. Unfortunately for Klein, Dowd stretched himself out to deflect the ball and keep Revs II off the board.
Huntsville’s Jonathan Bolaños was at the right place at the right time in the 35th minute when he got on the end of a saved shot from Woobens Pacius and drilled it home to give Huntsville a 1-0 lead.
Revolution II wasted no time finding a response as Klein found himself with the ball on the right flank adjacent to the box. Klein tapped the ball backward into the path of a darting Leal, who drilled it into the net to level the match at one apiece in the 37th minute. Leal’s goal marked his fifth of the season and marked goals in consecutive matches.
The second half got off to a disastrous start for Revolution II. Woobens Pacius got onto a cross and easily tapped it in to regain Huntsville’s lead.
The first changes of the game came in the 61st minute when Andrej Bjeljac and Joshua Bolma replaced Escobar and Fry. Two more substitutions came in the 73rd minute as Gevork Diarbian and Liam Butts replaced McIntosh and Leal.
Bolma had the chance to find the equalizer in stoppage time, but his shot deflected off a defender and out for a corner kick. Monis had a good look at goal after battling his way into the box, but Dowd made the save to keep Huntsville’s lead intact.
Despite the effort, Revolution II were unable to mount a comeback as Huntsville walked away with a 2-1 victory as Revs II suffered their fourth straight loss.
Richie Williams and Revolution II will look to right the ship on July 21st when they hit the road to face Chicago Fire FC II at 5:00 pm ET.
Bolma should be dominating at this level and he missed more than one chance by a wide margin
Maybe time for a coaching change??
