Pioneers Announce UConn Midfielder As Part of 2024 Squad
Kwame Adu-Gyamfi will play this summer for the Western Mass Pioneers.
With seven weeks awaiting the beginning of the 2024 USL League 2 season, the Western Mass Pioneers announced their first new signing for the summer in Kwame Adu-Gyamfi via X.
Adu-Gyamfi is currently finishing his sophomore year at UConn and will join the squad in the summer. This season he feature in all 18 of UConn’s games, starting 13 matches and recording no goal contributions.
In his freshman season, he played in nine games and gave two assists.
Adu-Gyamfi plays in midfield, an area of the pitch that saw the Pioneers play mostly with trialists in the U.S. Open Cup match against Union Omaha.
Molinari deployed three trialists in midfield: former-Revs II Ben Awashie with Bryant University’s Santiago Blasco Gomez and versatile defender Javier Rivera. Right-back Jordan Koduah ended up stepping into midfield towards the end of the game.
Adu-Gyamfi played over 1,100 minutes for UConn in the fall helping them advance to the Big East semi-finals.
Adu-Gyamfi is a native of Holden, Massachusetts, and played high school soccer at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury. In his senior year, he was varsity captain and gained All-State honors.
This spring he will play friendlies with UConn and head over to Ludlow, Massachusetts, for the pre-season once he finishes his final exams.
