Olger Escobar Named MLS NEXT U-17 MVP
The Malden, Massachusetts native earns league honors following an impressive 2022-23 campaign!
New England Revolution Academy forward Olger Escobar received MLS NEXT honors on Thursday as the 16-year-old was named the 2022-23 MLS NEXT Under-17 Most Valuable Player.
The Malden, Massachusetts native notched an impressive 15 goals in his 17 starts with the Revolution U17s in the 2022-23 season while also notching three goals at MLS NEXT Flex and two goals at MLS NEXT Fest.
Despite the U-17s being eliminated in the Quarterfinals of June’s MLS NEXT Cup, Escobar propelled to the Revs U-19s and made two substitute appearances in the U-19s MLS NEXT Cup runs that saw them become the first Academy to earn back-to-back MLS NEXT Cup titles.
Escobar also made his name known at the international level as he led the Guatemala U-17s to the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf U-17 competition. Escobar led his nation and tied for fourth place in the Golden Boot race with four goals.
Escobar has begun dipping his toes with the Revolution’s developmental club, Revolution II, as he’s clocked 57 minutes over four appearances with the MLS NEXT Pro side this season.
“I want to thank everyone at the Revolution, all of my teammates, coaches, especially Rob Becerra, BJ Noble, and Curt Onalfo,” Escobar said. “This is really special. It’s been a long journey and I’m really proud of this achievement.”
Escobar will represent the New England Revolution as he will participate in July 19th’s MLS NEXT All-Star Game.
