Northeastern's Zach Sauer Joins Western Mass Pioneers for the Summer
Sauer played in the Northeast division in the USL League 2 for the Albany Rush last season.
The Western Mass Pioneers have announced their second new signing and third roster decision in the last three days by confirming the arrival of Zach Sauer.
Sauer is currently a senior at Northeastern University and has played all four years as a midfielder and defender for the Huskies. Across his four seasons, Sauer appeared in 61 games and started 47 of them. He has also contributed four assists in his collegiate career.
A native of Hebron, Connecticut, Sauer played for Oakwood Soccer Club’s development academy side in Glastonbury. He later played for Hartford City FC in the NPSL during the Summer of 2022. Coincidentally, he played that summer alongside Pioneers returning striker Alec Hughes.
Last Summer, Sauer played for the Albany Rush and faced off against the Pioneers twice and scored in both encounters.
With a bit more than six weeks remaining for the start of the season, Sauer joins Gianluca Cersosimo, Tomas Duben, Connor Hicks, Jordan Koduah, Khalid Rose, Alec Hughes, and Kwame Adu-Gyamfi on the roster.
Sauer will join the pre-season as soon as he completes his final semester this Spring at Northeastern.
The Pioneers will kick off their USL League 2 campaign in an away fixture agains the Boston Bolts on May 14th at 7 p.m.
The transfer is still pending league and federation approval.
