New England Revolution Stadium "Dead In The Water"
Another day, another roadblock for a Revolution soccer-specific stadium.
The New England Revolution’s search for a soccer-specific stadium is back to square one after the economic development package that included a pathway for a stadium along the Mystic River in Everett is now “dead in the water”.
After nearly a year of back-and-forth discussions and public hearings, it looked as if the Revolution were one step closer to building a stadium of their own in the Boston area when the Massachusetts State Senate passed an economic development bill on July 11th that featured clear language to help get the Everett stadium built.
Since the language of the State Senate bill differentiated from the one passed by the House earlier, both the Senate and the House had to meet in a Conference Committee to review both sides’ bill and come to a compromise, with July 31st being the deadline to reach an agreement.
With the clock ticking down to midnight on the 31st, neither side was able to reach a compromise over the proposal as the bill now sits in limbo. It’s unclear when or if we’ll see another attempt to get the bill passed, as Wednesday marked the last formal session of the calendar year, which means the organization and fans might need to sit and wait to get the process started again.
Despite the massive blow, State Senator Sal DiDomenico told Politico’s Kelly Garrity that he’s “still committed” to bringing a soccer stadium to Everett.
Sad reflection on our legislature. There were even more critical issues than the stadium that they punted on.
I hate that I was right to be skeptical.
