Revolution II: Three Thoughts After Loss to FC Cincy 2
Three thoughts on Revolution II's 2-1 loss to FC Cincinnati 2.
Despite Marcos Dias finding the back of the net in the third minute, a first-half brace from Amir Daley did Revolution II in as they opened their three-game road trip with a 2-1 loss to FC Cincinnati 2. Here are three thoughts
1 - Damario McIntosh Is Legit
I didn’t know what to expect of the Revs Academy prospect when he signed an Amaetuer Agreement with Revolution II on March 13th. However, the Newark, California native has had a stellar start to the 2024 campaign.
McIntosh went a full 90 minutes in the loss to Cincinnati, where he ended the night completing 33 of 45 passes (73%), two chances created, 74 touches, two tackles, and one clearance.
While he’s yet to get on the scoresheet, Damario McIntosh has been a great addition on both sides of the ball for Revolution II. I look forward to seeing what he does throughout the remainder of 2024.
2 - Losing Steam
The one thing both losses so far in 2024 have in common was Revs II letting their foot off the gas and allowing their opponent back into the match.
It only took nine minutes for Revolution II to find their first goal of the season after Alex Monis netted the opening goal against Union II. It all went downhill from there as an unfortunate own goal from Hesron Barry and a costly turnover from Joshua Bolma led to Revs II suffering a 2-1 defeat.
It was almost a repeat of their opener in Tuesday’s match as a quick goal from Marcos Dias was erased following a first-half brace from Daley. It’s not the boldest take, but if Revs II are looking to succeed in 2024, they need to lock in. They won’t get far if they keep shutting off like they have against Philadelphia and Cincinnati tonight.
3 - Hesron’s Headbutt
A big factor in Revolution II collapsing was the fact they played a man down for over 50 minutes as Hesron Barry for headbutting Amir Daley.Â
Look, Daley was 100% in the wrong for starting the altercation, but I don’t understand what Barry thought would happen after headbutting an opponent. The red card was 100% deserved and it cost Revs II the chance of taking points on the road.
Barry has done a lot right through his first three games, which includes an 84.8 passing percentage, 177 touches, five accurate long balls, three interceptions, and eight recoveries. Yet the red card tacked on to the own goal against Philadelphia has tampered with all the good he’s done in 2024.
Hopefully, the rest of 2024 pans out smoothly for Barry.
