Caleb Porter Gives Update on New England Revolution Roster
The illness that wrecked the Revolution is nearly gone
The New England Revolution were ravaged by an illness but the team seems to be on the mend heading into this week’s match against the Chicago Fire.
Esmir Bajraktarevic and Alijaz Ivacic missed the match against Miami. Both players were expected to start. Dave Romney also came into the stadium not feeling well on Saturday and was sent home.
Matt Polster and Mark-Anthony Kaye fought through the illness and managed to play even though Polster was in the emergency room early Saturday morning.
Revolution head coach Caleb Porter gave an update on how the affected players are feeling on Tuesday.
“Yeah, everybody but Matt [Polster]. Matt wasn't able to train today,” Porter said when asked if the sick players had recovered. “I actually have no idea how he played. He was dead; he had nothing left. So, he didn't train today, but we are optimistic that he will be fine in the next couple days.”
Kaye also discussed how he was feeling on Tuesday.
“I'm feeling better, still taking some time to feel 100 percent,” the midfielder said. “I still feel a little in a daze, weak. I'm going to try to eat a little bit more and see if I can hold it down. But yeah, it was tough. No one could have expected it, and I'm just happy most of the guys are on the mend now and feeling better.”
But New England also suffered an injury on the pitch as Nacho Gil suffered a non-contact injury. Porter said after the match that it didn’t look good but in terms of not looking good, it seems that Gil escaped a major injury.
“He [Nacho Gil] has got a meniscus [injury], so he is going to be out. I don't know the exact timeline, but he is definitely going to be out for the next month at least.”
With Gil out, the likes of Esmir Bajraktarevic, Dylan Borrero, and Ema Boateng seem in line for more minutes. With the depth at wing, the Spaniard’s loss will be felt but not as much if New England were to suffer an injury at striker.
But for now the Revolution are out of the woods in terms of dealing with illness. Still if they suffer another loss against the Chicago Fire, fans might be feeling queasy about the rest of the 2024 season.
Polster and MAK are officially on my “strong as hell” list. I have no idea how they played with the flu or food poisoning. I barely get dressed if I have either.
I think that the Revs are feeling the way a lot of people are feeling about this season; sickened.
