Marcelo Santos Departs Revolution II
The Revolution II original's time with the club ends after five seasons.
New England Revolution II saw another big shake-up on Saturday when Associate Head Coach Marcelo Santos announced his departure from the club after five seasons.
Santos, a Revolution II original, joined the club as an Academy Head Coach for the 2018-19 season before taking an assistant coaching role under Clint Peay before Revolution II’s inaugural season.
Santos’ time in New England also saw him serve briefly as interim Head Coach of Revolution II before ascending to the first team to serve as an interim assistant coach in 2023.
Following the 2023 season, Santos saw a title change heading into 2024 as he became the "Associate Head Coach”.
“After seven incredible years, the time has come for me to step away and embrace a new chapter,” Santos said. “Leaving a place that has meant so much to me and my family is not easy, but I do so with immense gratitude for the people and moments that have shaped this experience…As I move forward, I do so with nothing but respect and gratitude for this club and the incredible people who make it great. The Revolution will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’ll carry everything I’ve learned here into the challenges ahead.”
Santos’ departure marks the second coach to depart Revolution II this offseason. Goalkeeping coach Yuta Nomura announced his departure on October 21st, 2024.
Both departures came after Revolution II ended the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season in last place with a 4-18-6 record with four shootout victories.
He should have been the coach of the team!!
