Mamadou Fofana & Mali Advance to AFCON Round of 16
Fofana and Mali advance after securing three points in the group stage.
Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana and the Mali National Team are heading to the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Fofana and Mali began the group stage on December 22 with a meeting against Zambia. Despite holding a 1-0 lead late into the match, things changed in stoppage time when Patson Daka got on the end of a ball lobbed forward and headed it home to level the game in the second minute of stoppage time to split the points between both sides.
The Revs defender was an unused substitute in the final two group stage games, which saw Mali play to a 1-1 draw against Morocco and a scoreless draw against Comoros.
Mali’s three points from the group stage were just enough to see them finish in second place in Group A. Fofana and Mali continue their quest for the Africa Cup of Nations title on January 3 when they face Tunisia at 2 PM ET.
