Knighton Family Launches Olivia Knighton Foundation
Brad and Britney Knighton will look to spread their late daughter Olivia's "light, love, passion, and kindness."
On what would have been their daughter’s 12th birthday, former Revolution goalkeeper Brad Knighton and his wife Britney announced the launch of the Olivia Knighton Foundation to honor the life of Olivia Knighton, who tragically passed away on July 20th.
Through scholarships, grants, and small acts of kindness, the Knightons will use the Olivia Knighton Foundation to “enable children to follow their dreams and make the world a better place.” They also hope the foundation will spread the light, love, passion, and kindness Olivia brought to others.
“Olivia’s beautiful light shined brightly and she savored every single day. For us, every day with her was a gift. Britney and I knew that we had to channel her enduring kindness, warmth, and wonderful spirit into something positive in her own community that would make her proud and keep her spirit alive,” said Brad Knighton, Olivia’s father and President of the Olivia Knighton Foundation.
“Our family is full of gratitude for all of the support we’ve received in the months since Olivia’s passing, and we are eager now to pay that forward in Olivia’s name. We believe this is exactly what she would have wanted, and to begin this foundation on her birthday is the greatest gift we could give to our little girl.”
Since her passing, the organization has led multiple projects to honor Knighton. It all started in August when friends of Olivia organized a lemonade stand. The organization used the money to purchase gift cards, food, treats, toys, and supplies for the North Attleboro Animal Shelter.
September 2nd saw Knighton return to his alma mater, UNC Wilmington, to host the Olivia Knighton Tribute match as UNCW hosted Northeastern. They handed out wristbands and sold t-shirts, with proceeds going to a scholarship in Olivia’s name.
The foundation has also worked in the local community to spread acts of kindness through LoveForLive Kindness Cards. The cards disperse randomly, as recipients are encouraged to re-use them as they do something nice for another person.
