Jamie Kabuusu, Olger Escobar Receive International Call-ups
The duo will represent their respective international teams during the upcoming Concacaf Under-20 Championship!
New England Revolution II forward Olger Escobar and Revs Academy midfielder Jamie Kabuusu will represent the organization at the international level as the duo received call-ups to their respective National Under-20 teams ahead of the upcoming Concacaf Under-20 Championship.
Tuesday’s call-up marks Escobar’s sixth call-up with Guatemala. Escobar has seen a meteoric rise since debuting with Revolution II on April 21st, 2023, as he notched one assist over 16 appearances while seeing continual improvement over his 468 minutes of action.
The 2022-23 Revolution Academy Player of the Year has flourished on the international stage with Guatemala, as he notched five goals over 11 appearances with the nation’s U-17 and U-20 squads. Escobar’s success led to him receiving his first senior national team call-up in November while debuting at the senior level as a substitute in a scoreless draw against Jamaica on November 12th, 2023.
Escobar and Guatemala find themselves in Group C of the competition alongside Curacao, Aruba, Saint Martin, and Barbados. Guatemala begins group play on Friday, February 23rd, as they face Barbados. They’ll also play Saint Martin on February 25th, Aruba on February 29th, and wrap up the group stage on March 2nd against Curacao.
Tuesday marks Kabuusu’s first-ever international call-up. Kabuusu, a Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts native, notched one goal for the Revs Academy in Fall 2023 and helped the Revolution Under-17s reach the third round of the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup U-17 Playoffs. The 17-year-old will continue his academic and soccer career at Duke University this fall.
Kabuusu and Grenada were drawn into Group F alongside Jamaica, Bermuda, and Martinique. Grenada will open the group stage on February 24th against Bermuda while also playing Jamaica on February 26th before wrapping up the group stage against Martinique on February 28th.
