eMLS newcomer JAFONSO made Revolution history this weekend as he became the club’s first-ever eMLS player to win silverware after being crowned the League Series Two champion!
It all started with qualifying on Friday, where JAFONSO secured sixth place with 20 points on a 6-3-2 record. JAFONSO found himself placed into Group C alongside NR7 (St. Louis City), KingCJ0 (D.C. United), Lamps (Minnesota United, and doolsta (NYRB).
After eight group stage matches, JAFONSO found himself atop Group C with 18 points on a 6-2-0 record and a plus-30 goal differential. His first-place finish in the group earned him a first-round bye, where he’d face the winner of Gustavo (Charlotte FC) and Jordy Reyes (Houston Dynamo).
JAFONSO sent Gustavo packing in the Quarterfinal after securing a dominant 7-2 victory and secured a spot in the Semifinal where he’d face eMLS veteran KingCJ0. JAFONSO booked his ticket to the League 2 Final after picking up a 6-3 victory.
The final saw JAFONSO square off against reigning eMLS Cup Champion NR7. After taking a quick 3-0 lead, NR7 fired back as he shrunk JAFONSO’s lead to one. Yet it wouldn’t be enough as JAFONSO secured a 5-2 win along with his first eMLS title!
JAFONSO will look to add another title to his name next weekend as eMLS converges at the South by SouthWest convention (SXSW) in Austin, Texas!
