Jafonso's meteoric rise continues with another trophy and $300,000!
Revolution eMLS athlete Jafonso’s meteoric rise continued on Sunday when he captured the ESports World Cup trophy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The group stage was a breeze for Jafonso as he finished atop Group A with a 6-1 record.
Jafonso opened the Playoffs with a meeting against ManuBachoore in the quarterfinals. It was all Jafonso as he advanced to the semifinal with a commanding 6-2 victory.
Things got nervy when Jafonso squared off against PHzin. It was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the wire and saw Jafonso find the back of the net in stoppage time of the second half of extra time to give him a 7-6 victory and a spot in the ESports World Cup final.
It was all Jafonso in the final as he handed YOUNG a 6-2 defeat to clinch the 2024 ESport World Cup Championship!
Since signing with the Revolution on December 28th, 2023, Jafonso has seen a meteoric rise. After strong showings in League Series One and Two, Jafonso put his name on the map during the 2024 eMLS Cup when he captured the Revolution’s first eMLS title by defeating Inter Miami’s K1John to secure the eMLS Cup title.
His eMLS Cup victory secured him a spot at the 2024 FC Pro 24 World Championship. After making his way into the knockout stage, Jafonso secured wins over Ajax’s Maxkoelemaij and Miami’s K1John before bowing out in the semifinal to F.C. Famalicão’s Yuval.
Jafonso’s ESports World Cup win sees him bring home another trophy and a staggering $300,000.
