Ema Boateng Wants to Stay in New England
"I've always wanted to play here. I love it here."
Ema Boateng is once again stepping into the unknown but he is hoping that his time with the New England Revolution isn’t coming to an end.
Similar to last year, his contract with the New England is up. With a new sporting director and head coach on the horizon, the doubt regarding his spot on the roster only grows.
Boateng appeared in 27 matches and tallied two goals and three assists. He primarily featured off the bench and was great in the super-sub role.
The winger has a club option for the 2024 season and the 29-year-old wants to stay with the Revolution.
“So far, we haven't heard anything yet,” Boateng said on Thursday. “I think everybody has the meetings coming up in the next few days so we will know then. I've always wanted to play here. I love it here. Me and my fiance love being in New England. Great teammates, that's one of the big things. We have a really good group that supports and respects each other. I've always said it, even last year when I went into free agency, my preference was to sign here before free agency. So yeah, I want to be here.”
At 29, Boateng still has some great years ahead of him. Especially serving as a super-sub, it makes sense to bring him back on such a cheap deal ($95,784.00 in guaranteed compensation per the MLSPA).
But a new regime likely means that there will be a lot of changes. Boateng’s spot on the roster could become a casualty of these new hires looking to make the team their own.
So Revolution fans might have seen the last of Boateng in New England. If so he will go down as one of the more underrated players since he signed with the Revs in 2021.
Hope he stays. He's my favorite Revs player. His crossing ability is the best on the team. A very underrated player.
Hope they re-sign him, he's dynamic, fun to watch. Met him at the season members' event this year, and he was very gracious, too.
