Ema Boateng Returns to New England
Boateng will return for a fourth season with the Revolution!
Fan favorite Ema Boateng will return for another season in New England as the club inked a deal with the free agent winger Tuesday evening, a move first reported by our own
The 29-year-old midfielder became a free agent on December 1st when the club did not exercise the option on his contract. It wasn’t the first time Boateng explored free agency, as the Revs declined his option following the 2022 MLS season. Boateng eventually returned to the Revs ahead of the 2023 MLS season.
Boateng’s new deal sees him remain in New England through the 2024 MLS season and includes a one-year club option for 2025.
Since joining the Revs in January 2021, Boateng has appeared in 77 matches across all competitions, where he’s tallied six goals and eight assists over 3,140 minutes.
Boateng’s signing not only reunites him with the Revolution but with his former coach, Caleb Porter. Boateng played 12 matches with the Columbus Crew in 2020 under Porter, where the duo captured the 2020 MLS Cup.
“Ema is a seasoned veteran in Major League Soccer with a successful track record of delivering for his teams in key moments, including the last three years with the Revolution,” Porter said. “I know Ema well from our time in Columbus, where we won an MLS Cup together, and from many years coaching against him, so I am excited to see him remain with the Revolution and look forward to working with him again in New England when we hit the field in just under two weeks.”
With Dylan Borrero recovering from ACL surgery, Boateng returning to New England provides bolstering in the midfield until Borrero can return.
Glad to see him coming back - seemed like a no-brainer, but the club seems to like to treat him like a yo-yo.
Glad to see he is coming back. I don't think the management of the Revs give him the respect he deserves.
