Deshane Beckford Called Up By Jamaica
The Hartford winger will join the Reggae Boyz for FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June
Deshane Beckford was called up by the Jamaica National Team for their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Dominican Republic and Dominica. Beckford is the second Latic to be called up by the Reggae Boyz in 2024, with forward Romario Williams also having joined the national team for their CONCACAF Nations League games earlier this season.
Beckford has two previous appearances with the senior team with one cap in each of the last two calendar years. He has no goals for the senior team, but did score three times for the U-23s at the 2019 Pan American Games.
Domestically, Beckford is in good form with three goals in eleven games in all competitions, most recently finding the net with a game-winner against Monterey Bay FC. His goal tally is enough to make him the joint leading scorer for the Latics, who are in action again on Saturday night against Rhode Island FC.
Jamaica are in Group E for the second round of World Cup qualifying, and will begin play against the Dominican Republic on Thursday, June 6th, followed by a matchup with Dominica on Sunday, June 9th. The other teams in their group are Guatemala and British Virgin Islands.
