With the USMNT heading to Connecticut to play a friendly against Germany, local fans will have a familiar face to cheer on.
Among the call-ups to the 23-man roster for friendlies against Germany and Ghana is Revolution defender DeJuan Jones. This is the fourth time that Jones has been called up to the USMNT. Jones will be reunited with former teammate Matt Turner who was also called into the squad.
On the back line, Jones will be training (and hopefully playing) alongside the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Sergiño Dest, Kristoffer Lund, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Miles Robinson, and Joe Scally.
The most notable call-up is Gio Reyna who has spent some time away from the national team set-up after the scandal between his parents and Gregg Berhalter. According to Berhalter, the two have had a conversation via ZOOM and it was a positive one.
There is also a potential USMNT debut as Lennard Maloney earned his first call-up to the national team. The German-American dual national has appeared in all six Bundesliga matches for newly promoted Heidenheim this season.
While this call-up is great news for Jones, it is bittersweet for New England. This means that he will miss out on a crucial matchup against Nashville SC next week. With the Revs already missing Brandon Bye, New England’s outside depth will be pushed to the brink.
