Cristiano Olivera Scores in U.S. Under-17s Victory
The Revolution II midfielder found the back of the net in the United States win over St. Kitts & Nevis!
After securing a dominant 22-0 win over the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday, Revolution II midfielder Cristiano Oliveira and the United States Under-17 National Team returned to action on Wednesday when they squared off against St. Kitts and Nevis.
Wednesday’s match saw the Somerville native get the start after clocking 17 minutes as a substitute in Monday’s win.
Things got off to a good start for the U.S. when Axel Uriostegui found the back of the net in the 11th minute to give the U.S. an early 1-0 lead. Oliveira was then at the right place at the right time in the 19th minute. It all started when Kellan LeBlanc drove up the right flank and attempted to slot the ball centrally to Tanner Rosborough. Rosborough got a touch to it, but pressure ensued on him before he flicked the ball back to Oliveira, who rocketed it into the back of the net to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead.
The United States attack flourished through the remainder of the match as four goals from Rosborough plus an additional strike from Enrique Martinez led the U.S. to a 7-0 victory.
Thanks to Wednesday’s win, the U.S. find themselves atop Group F with a perfect 2-0-0 record and a +29 goal differential.
The U.S. will look to book their ticket to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup on Saturday when they face second-placed Cuba to determine who gets the top spot in Group F and advances. Thanks to their lead in goal differential, the U.S. needs a draw or a win to move on.
