Caleb Porter Talks About The Revs' Locker Room
Porter: “There's no knuckleheads here. It's a good group of guys, really good group of guys."
One of the first things that Caleb Porter did after being named the head coach of the New England Revolution was reach out to the players.
The goal was to make connections with the people that he’s going to be working with every day.
“I do this for the players and the supporters,” Porter said. “But what makes me tick, what gets me out of bed every day, is working with the players and helping them develop, reach their potential, leave a legacy.
“When I get old and gray, I'll look back and think about the players that I worked with and the relationships I've built with them.”
Porter began by reaching out to club captain Carles Gil, who will continue to wear the armband. The new Revs coach is excited to work with the 2021 MLS MVP.
“We're going to have a great relationship,” Porter said. “He is going to be key in our game model, really key, and I think he's one of the best players in the league, so I'm looking forward to working with him.”
The weeklong process continued until he spoke to every player. Porter said the conversations “were all enjoyable.”
“I wanted to take the time to do that, and I loved it, getting to know the guys and they're all good guys,” Porter said. “There's no knuckleheads here. It's a good group of guys, really good group of guys.
“So, Curt [Onalfo] and the Krafts and obviously, the previous people in the club have done a good job of building a good locker room, which is important, because you don’t win without a good locker room.”
Very keen on hearing the coaching staff announcements next week.
