Caleb Porter Reflects On Revs' First Week Of Preseason
The team held an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday.
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter is happy with what he saw from the first week of preseason.
The team, which is in Florida, held an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday.
“There was a very good intensity over those 40 minutes,” Porter said. “It’s less than a half, but the intensity, physically, I thought was excellent today over the 40 minutes that we played.”
Porter noted that one of the things his team worked on this week was playing out of the back. While any tactic will take time to implement fully, there were promising moments on Friday.
“I thought with both groups there were some really good pictures and moments where we did that,” Porter said. “That’s pleasing, we will be able to show those things in the film.”
The Revs were active in the off-season, bringing in 12 new players. When asked about how the team is building chemistry, Porter gave a positive review.
“The attitude, across the board, is excellent,” Porter said. “I’ve had a lot of teams over the years, and I think the locker room with this group is really looking promising in terms of the attitude, the desire, the hunger.
“We have a good group of guys that are hungry to work and hungry to improve. We’re still missing a few guys as well, so as that kind of comes together and as we continue to build physically and the quality tactically and technically, I’m confident this thing will start to take off.”
Two important pieces that aren’t currently in Florida are Mamadou Fofana and Ignatius Ganago, though both players are expected to arrive soon.
“I think we’re a couple days away from Fofana going to Boston and getting his medical there, which he has to do,” Porter said. “They have to do their medicals in-market, so he’ll fly there hopefully Sunday or Monday, and then be here Tuesday or Wednesday. And with Ganago, it’s probably going to be another week or two.”
The Revolution will play their first preseason game against an opponent on Tuesday when they face Austin FC.
