Caleb Porter Provides Injury Updates for Kaye, Buck, and Chancalay
Porter gave the latest information after Saturday's game.
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter provided some injury updates after Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Mark-Anthony Kaye was a late scratch for Saturday’s game, but Porter hopes the midfielder will return soon.
“Mark, he took a knock in the last game on his knee, or his quad tendon, and he trained but it was partial training,” Porter said. “Then he was 100 percent on Friday, but he felt like at the end of the training, he had kind of a sore hamstring.
“Basically today, we made the decision. We brought him in early and made the decision, he couldn’t go. So, we’re hoping, obviously, that he’s available next week, but we’ll see.”
Noel Buck stepped up in his sted, pairing with Ian Harkes, who was in for the suspended Matt Polster.
Buck made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal in the 7th minute.
“I told Noel before the game, ‘It’s not an accident,’ just like it wasn’t an accident Dave Romney got his opportunity, or Ian Harkes or Ema Boateng comes in,” Porter said. “Those are things that happened for a reason along this journey.
“I love to see him [Buck] come in and smash a goal and have a great performance. I thought Ian Harkes, as well, played really well.”
Buck’s night ended early, though, as he made way for Andrew Farrell in the 71st minute. Buck was seen laboring a bit before the substitution.
“Noel, I think, is fine,” Porter said. “He had a cramp. Obviously, long week for him. He played two games [with England], travel, so maybe that’s a part of it.”
Tomas Chancalay hasn’t played since May 25 when he exited the New York City FC game in the 11th minute. The team was waiting for the swelling to go down before making a decision about the injury. More news should be available soon.
“Chancalay is a little more complicated,” Porter said. “I’ll have an update here very shortly, hopefully, Tuesday.”
Chancalay better not be out for the season. Very glad to hear Buck’s wasn’t as serious as I first was worried it was
