Cade Cowell Replaces Gio Reyna on USMNT Roster
Reyna departs training camp with an injury while Cowell joins the US ahead of a pair of friendlies.
As the United States Men’s National Team continues preparing for a pair of upcoming friendlies against Canada and New Zealand, Thursday saw a slight change to the roster.
The United States announced that Borussia Dortmund midfielder Giovanni Reyna had departed training camp after sustaining a left groin strain.
With Reyna departing, the U.S. called in Chivas forward Cade Cowell to fill the void. The 20-year-old comes into September’s camp with eight caps for the United States. Since debuting on December 19th, 2021, Cowell has tallied a goal and an assist over 401 minutes.
Cowell has seen a meteoric rise since joining Liga MX side Chivas in January. The Ceres, California native has appeared in 30 matches for Chivas, where he tallied eight goals and three assists over 1,654 minutes.
The 2024 Apertura has seen Cowell break out, as he’s tallied three goals and two assists in just six matches. An effort that led to Cowell being named Liga MX’s Player of the Month for July.
Cowell and the United States will kick off September’s slate of friendlies on September 7 when they host Canada inside Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City at 4:00 pm ET on TBS and Telemundo. September 10 sees the US host New Zealand inside TQL Stadium in Cincinnati at 7:00 pm ET on TNT and Universo.
