Bruce Arena Provides Injury Updates For Carles Gil, Nacho Gil, Tommy McNamara, and Andrew Farrell
Arena on Gil: “He’s definitely going to be ready to play next week. I don’t expect him to play this week.”
Carles Gil didn’t train on Thursday and isn’t expected to play in this Saturday’s game against Nashville SC, according to New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena.
Gil was on the bench to start last Sunday’s game against LAFC due to a knock. He entered in the 63rd minute, replacing Gustavo Bou, but exited in the 91st with a hamstring injury.
On Thursday, Arena said, “Carles didn’t train today. We’re still working on getting him fully healthy.”
When speaking to Zolak and Bertrand, Arena provided further details.
“It’s not bad,” Arena said when asked about the injury. “He’s definitely going to be ready to play next week. I don’t expect him to play this week.”
Of course, Gil is an important part of the Revolution’s attack. The former league MVP is one of the top chance creators in the league and has amassed 21 goals and 49 assists in 104 MLS appearances. Replacing Gil isn’t easy.
“We don't have a like-for-like for Carles,” Arena said. “We don't have a player that can play his role or his position. So, we have to adjust things.”
Arena also provided the media with injury updates for Andrew Farrell, Tommy McNamara, and Nacho Gil.
He noted that Farrell has “been practicing.” When asked about the two midfielders, he said, “We don't know exactly, to be honest with you. I would think Tommy will be back maybe in a couple of weeks or so. I'm still not sure. Nacho is about a month or two away.”
The Revs recently welcomed back Gustavo Bou, who missed preseason to obtain his green card. Arena believes it will take some time before he’s fully fit.
“Well, [Gustavo Bou] has just been with us for two or three weeks, so it's going to take a little time,” Arena said. “For Gustavo, this is still his preseason, so it's going to take him a little bit. But as we get through this month, I think he's going to start getting in real good form in the month of April.”
